Lisa Hurwitz is a seasoned education researcher with over a decade of experience in preK-12 children’s media, digital learning, and educational technology (EdTech). As the Director of Research at Newsela, she leads a talented team of mixed-methods researchers specializing in efficacy research, learning analytics, psychometrics, and user research. Her impactful work includes experimental and quasi-experimental studies aligned with ESSA criteria. Lisa’s research has been published in top-tier journals such as New Media & Society, Computers & Education, and Child Development, and featured in prominent outlets like the Chicago Tribune and Education Week. An editorial review board member for the Journal of Computer Assisted Learning and the Journal of Children and Media, she has received several prestigious awards, including top dissertation honors from the Society for Research in Child Development and the International Communication Association.
